I played bridge for the first time in two months today. I played awfully, but then my partner didn't exactly shine herself. On the tube back, the young lady sat next to me offered to help with the crossword. In one of those 'actually, I could've done that' moments, I changed at Embankment when I could otherwise have gone on to Bank and changed there. So of course I'll never know what might've become of that brief encounter.
You can check out how I did by going to The Young Chelsea Bridge Club's Thursday Results in the next couple of days. I don't expect that I did very well at all. Though we did bid & make a cold 7S, unfortunately 7NT is just as icy and scores 10 more points. Trivial in a teams match, but playing match-pointed pairs it's a huge insurmountable gap. 50% of the field will have been in 6S or 6NT, though, so it should be an average plus.
It also turns out that someone I know on mono was, when I didn't know him, at the same Iron Maiden gig at the Torbay Leisure Centre in 1991 that I went to (there has only ever been one Iron Maiden gig at the Torbay Leisure Centre, to my knowledge). Small world and all that.
