If today hasn't been a typical day, then I don't know what is. So I suppose this will give you a clue.
6:45am - my alarm goes off. I hit the 'Drowse' button.
6:54am - my alarm goes off (excuse me... 9 minutes? always thought that a bit odd). I hit the 'Drowse' button.
7:03am - my alarm goes off. I stay in bed.
7:50am - I get out of bed, followed by a shower and all that getting dressed rigmarole.
9:00am - I leave for work. Don't worry. I'm on flexible hours. As long as I'm in by 10am, I'm okay.
9:40am - After popping in to Boots for an Egg & Bacon sandwich and some Ribena (they're out of non-Diet Coke), I sign in at work.
12:30pm - The morning has been full of little bits and pieces, most of them sorted out. I've already had a reminder that I'm on Helpdesk duty in the afternoon. Just enough time to go out, grab some lunch, and eat it at my desk whilst scanning the news (news.bbc.co.uk, not that the BBC really need the publicity).
1:00pm - The afternoon shift kicks off, and I'm on Helpdesk. This involves doing normal work, just hvaing to keep an eye open for Helpdesk e-mails and raising the calls and assigning them to the relevant supervisors for distribution. I'm doing more finishing off of bits and pieces, though I do shout at one of the managers who is on-site. Most of the end of the afternoon is taken up with a bit of investigation that the supervisor doesn't think merits the estimate I've given it. Beats me, he may be a supervisor, but in every other respect I'm senior to him and tend to know best - besides, his working methods don't exactly agree with mine.
5:30pm - Leave work. Pick up some shopping in Sainsbury's before getting on the Tube to head home. My original plan had been to get home, eat, watch Farscape, then go back out again. Once I'm home, going back out again doesn't seem likely.
6:45pm - Farscape. In parallel with heating up a chicken Madras.
10:45pm - After an evening spent watching TV, playing games (I've just started on Final Fantasy 7 again, for some reason), and eating Maltesers (Sainsbury's still have a large number of ridiculously large and convenient buckets of them left over from Christmas), it's time to do a final check of various web sites before going to bed.
11:20pm - Instead of going to bed, I'll end up watching Film 2003. Just watch me.
12:00am - I'll finally get to bed.
So there you have it. The norm. The yardstick.
