It occurs to me that I've not really updated much here of late. So here goes.
First and foremostly, muchos thankos to [livejournal.com profile] eponymousarchon and [livejournal.com profile] kyte for their general helpfullness over the last weekend, which resulted in me having a curtain pole in my bedroom! It's only been four years, after all.... It'd be sweeter if the curtains I had weren't 3 metres tall. 3 metres! I mean, who on earth has windows that tall? I tell you...
Saturday evening was spent at the birthday party of [livejournal.com profile] dakeyras, in the company of many, many, others. Much was drunk. Hugs all around. And some 'Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr-ing', too. Fantastic.
I also have new wall hangings, in the form of a Reservoir Dogs poster (bedroom), and a Periodic Table of Cocktails poster (destined for the living room, in view of the kitchen). A new uplighter/spot lamp (for the dark corner behind the TV), a triangular table (where the uplighter/spot will stand), and a linen basket (that is not exactly conventional). And did I mention that I have a curtain pole up in my bedroom?
Lent to me were three Battle Of The Planets videos. I'm seriously worried about what will happen to my mind should I watch them (I'm half inclined not to, y'know, and just see if I can get hold of the Gatchaman originals). This show was a firm favourite as a kid, but I expect that it's not really aged all that well.
I'm also racing through season 1 of The West Wing on DVD. The episode I've just watched features John De Lancie, probably best know for playing Q in Star Trek: The Next Generation. So when one of his opening lines was (to badly mis-quote) "So, Mr President, do you want to guarantee your re-election?", I had to fall about laughing.
And work, where I'm in the middle of presenting a training course on things that I couldn't even hope to describe, even if I were allowed to in such a public forum as this, wasn't as bad as it could've been. Only problem being the rain, which somewhat spoiled my plan of heading to John Lewis on Oxford Street to pick out some (shorter) curtains for the bedroom. Maybe tomorrow, eh?
And that, as they say, is that.

Battle of the Planets

They were showing this on some cable channel (Bravo, I think) ages back.

I don't think it's aged badly... but, unlike the best children's programmes, it doesn't seem to have a parallel interpretation for the adults to enjoy.

Everyone else I know has hacked their DVD players - it's not hard with most models - just need to punch a few numbers in usually.
