Inspired by the AFI's 100 Years... 100 Movies list is the obvious meme. I'm surprised that there's only one film in the list that I struck out. I'm not surprised by the number of them I've never seen. Basically it reads like a list of "Best Picture" winners up to about 1996 (nothing after then... hmm... anything to do with Titanic being the 1997 winner?), plus a few token others.
Edit: Ahh, the list was published in 1998, which kind of explains the lack of representation of the '90s and '80s, when you consider the probable age of the voters. Still, analysis has revealed that the 50s and 60s were the "favourite" decades, with the 50s (1951-1960) contributing 20% of the films on the list!
