The flight was good, room to stretch out (so why was it so damned expensive when the 'plane was only half-full, then??!) Hire car essentially a Vectra, and is metallic orange (though I'm sure it'd be described as ""copper" in the brochure).

I want my grandmother-in-law's apartment. It has a view right on to the beach. Not just some rubbishy beach either, this is a proper wide long sandy beach. We plan on coming up with any amount of excuses to go back there. For starters, she's getting her furniture delivered on Tuesday - she moved in two months ago.

I have to go get measured for the tux I'll be wearing to the wedding (my sister-in-law's wedding is on Saturday, the main reason for us being out here). That'll be fun, then.

I don't really need to describe the family dinner last night. Chaotic does not even start to describe this lot ;-) Luckily there is a den/loft space at the top of the house where I can escape to.

Prologue

[livejournal.com profile] arosoff requires a new pair of shoes to wear to her sister's wedding.  [livejournal.com profile] arosoff and [livejournal.com profile] eldar approach the Roosevelt Field Mall, and park by Nordstrom.  At least it's not busy, being a Monday morning during school.

1. Nordstrom

[livejournal.com profile] arosoff peruses the many, many, pairs of shoes on display at Nordstrom, and doesn't appear to be impressed. Except by some very expensive designer shoes. [livejournal.com profile] arosoff and [livejournal.com profile] eldar move on.

2. Bloomingdale's, Macy's

Nada. Zip. No dice.

Interlude: Lunch

[livejournal.com profile] eldar gets a turkey, ham, cheese, and mustard sub hero. And some beer. Nobody knows where the bottle opener is, so the beer goes unconsumed. From teh vantage point of a bridge, [livejournal.com profile] eldar and [livejournal.com profile] arosoff also witness the aftermath of an accident on Interstate 495 (a.k.a. the Long Island Expressway, or just plain LIE).  This has a bearing on a future happening, and is considered an essential detail.

3. Walt Whitman Mall

Including Bloomingdale's #2, Lord & Taylor, and Saks 5th Avenue.  No shoes, although some were tried on - and discarded.  Brief respite is found in Barnes & Noble - a humble bookshop.

Interlude: Dinner

See previous descriptions of dinner, but a bottle opener had been purchased so the beer could be consumed.  Dinner was veal chops.

4. Roosevelt Field Revisited

[livejournal.com profile] eldar was expecting a long, long, evening as [livejournal.com profile] arosoff tried and tried shoe after shoe.  [livejournal.com profile] eldar didn't count on the assistant at Nordstrom.  The assistant at Nordstrom not only sold [livejournal.com profile] arosoff the pair of shoes she wasn't after, but was almost the same as the ones she'd picked out, but also managed to sell her another pair of shoes she hadn't been looking for but actually had been looking for.

Epilogue

Ice cream for all. [livejournal.com profile] eldar got cookie crumbs sprinkled on his.
