Prologue

[livejournal.com profile] arosoff requires a new pair of shoes to wear to her sister's wedding.  [livejournal.com profile] arosoff and [livejournal.com profile] eldar approach the Roosevelt Field Mall, and park by Nordstrom.  At least it's not busy, being a Monday morning during school.

1. Nordstrom

[livejournal.com profile] arosoff peruses the many, many, pairs of shoes on display at Nordstrom, and doesn't appear to be impressed. Except by some very expensive designer shoes. [livejournal.com profile] arosoff and [livejournal.com profile] eldar move on.

2. Bloomingdale's, Macy's

Nada. Zip. No dice.

Interlude: Lunch

[livejournal.com profile] eldar gets a turkey, ham, cheese, and mustard sub hero. And some beer. Nobody knows where the bottle opener is, so the beer goes unconsumed. From teh vantage point of a bridge, [livejournal.com profile] eldar and [livejournal.com profile] arosoff also witness the aftermath of an accident on Interstate 495 (a.k.a. the Long Island Expressway, or just plain LIE).  This has a bearing on a future happening, and is considered an essential detail.

3. Walt Whitman Mall

Including Bloomingdale's #2, Lord & Taylor, and Saks 5th Avenue.  No shoes, although some were tried on - and discarded.  Brief respite is found in Barnes & Noble - a humble bookshop.

Interlude: Dinner

See previous descriptions of dinner, but a bottle opener had been purchased so the beer could be consumed.  Dinner was veal chops.

4. Roosevelt Field Revisited

[livejournal.com profile] eldar was expecting a long, long, evening as [livejournal.com profile] arosoff tried and tried shoe after shoe.  [livejournal.com profile] eldar didn't count on the assistant at Nordstrom.  The assistant at Nordstrom not only sold [livejournal.com profile] arosoff the pair of shoes she wasn't after, but was almost the same as the ones she'd picked out, but also managed to sell her another pair of shoes she hadn't been looking for but actually had been looking for.

Epilogue

Ice cream for all. [livejournal.com profile] eldar got cookie crumbs sprinkled on his.

I can't believe you go about without a church key. :-) They make them now without knives attached, so you can take them through airport security. :-) In fact the outdoor equipment shop near me has an assortment in different odd shapes, made out of the same brightly-coloured metal they use for carabiners. Please, allow me to send you one (well, OK, at this point it will be waiting when you get home, but...) No one should be without the ability to deal with a crown cap when the need is dire.

P.S.

Bless you for the whole shoe thing. That's what spouses are for; BFs cannot last through the throes of extended shopping--only a tried and true partner will have the stamina for that.
