The idea? Have someone (usually the poster) pick three of your interests. You must then explain the reason behind these interests.

In my case, [livejournal.com profile] matgb wanted to know about:

antidisestablishmentarianism: This is, of course, a very long word. If you look it up at dictionary.com, you get the following definition:

"opposition to the withdrawal of state support or recognition from an established church, esp. the Anglican Church in 19th-century England."

All well and good, but I'm not particularly fussed about the hows and whys of the funding of organised religion, given that I don't practice it. I do like long words, though. And antidisestablishmentarianism is a long word.

indecent sandwiches: My wife, [livejournal.com profile] arosoff, has "decent sandwiches" in her interests list. Naturally, I had to put the opposite. I'm not 100% sure what an "indecent sandwich" is, but I'll bet that I can find such a thing in Pret-a-Manger, or any other place that subscribes to the mantra "it's a sandwich, so we must put salad in it".

pinball wizard: For once, a proper interest! It's two-fold: first, it's a great song, not The Who's best, but it's very singalongable and fantastic for air guitar. Second, I'm not too bad at the ol' silver ball myself, or at least I was pretty good back when every pub had a table. Unfortunately the economic, maintenance, and floorspace problems associated with pinball tables has long since taken hold, and you're lucky to find a half-decently maintained machine in a seaside arcade these days, let alone in a pub. This is a shame. I can make £1 last a long, long, time given the right table (and still walk away leaving more credits in than I'd started with).

So... I guess you can either ask me to nominate 3 of your own interests for explanation, or ask me to explain more of mine. And of course pass this on.
