So apparently it may be due to my lack of edits. Only thing is, nothing much happens to me these days. Okay, I went to France last weekend, but the chances are you've already read about it in [livejournal.com profile] arosoff's LJ.

But what the... Friday, stupidly early am:

We drove to Dover, got on the ferry, drove from Calais to Rouen, drove round and round trying to find parking, eventually lucked out with a space right in front of the hotel, checked in, rested, then dinner.

Saturday:
Wandered round town in the morning and afternoon, a nice dinner in the evening.

Sunday:
Drove to the coast, along with, it turns out, the whole of Paris. Drove round two whole towns twice trying to find a parking space, before finding one in the third town. Stopped for lunch, and that was about it. I'd have liked to have spent more time there, given the effort put into getting there. The day was foggy and horrible; it seems Parisians, though, are programmed to just get up and leave town on public holidays, regardless of le temps. Rushed back to the hotel on the péage - breaking a cardinal rule of driving in France I'd picked up from my Dad. On the way down, we'd avoided the toll motorway in favour of the Route Nationale 1, stopping for lunch in the typically French town square of Montreuil. Alexis was ill, and dinner consisted of... McD's. Did you know you can't get a McChicken sandwich or a chocolate milkshake in a French McDonald's? Well now you do. I did get to order a Royale Cheese (note the lack of "with"), discover that a meal deal in France is a "Best of..." and "go large" is "Maxi". None of which I noticed being in place in French McD's when I frequented them whilst living there ten years ago (I was a student then; that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it).

Monday:
Drove back to Calais, ferry back to Dover, ran over a pheasant on the M20 (I kid you not... I was quite rightly concentrating on where other cars were in relation to me, and when this dumb bird waddled in front of me, it was kind of tricky to avoid whilst doing 90), back home via Sainsbury's and Krispy Kreme.

The rest of this week has been dull.

My manager is going to get a talking to when he returns from his holiday on Monday - he forgot to tell the team he was off all week (at least our staff diary is online, so we can tell who's off on holiday), but even worse he forgot to leave relevant instructions for the supervisors to do his job in his absence. This week being a timesheets week and all. Apparently complaints were made; we all await the outcome eagerly. (He's not going to be kicked out. A pity, his managerial skills extend to hovering at your shoulder watching you type and blustering whilst trying to pretend to know he has a clue about what you're doing. Then he goes back to his office and pores over emails and adminitrative minuteae, complaining bitterly at every slightest slip.)

Today, I really meant to do stuff. Instead I got up, and played Civ for 8 hours. Then we went out and had curry.

I'm not 100% convinced by the new Dr Who yet. This week's episode was a bit weak. Hopefully some of the more interesting-looking characters will be back, as proper nemeses for the Doc.

Also... was the thing that was mentioned at the end of the episode, pertaining to Gallifrey, something that cropped up before, and I just wasn't paying attention? Or is it new?
