I haven't seen anyone else comment on it, so I feel that I should at least voice my heartfelt approval of Johnny Depp's Oscar nomination for his role in Pirates of the Carribean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. I know that the nominations generally contain at least one bow to one of the year's most popular films, but more often than not it's not genuinely deserved. In this case, though, Depp's recognition is justified. To steal the show in a film is one thing, but to steal the show in a film that contains other potentially show-stealing performances (notably that of Geoffrey Rush) is an achievement worth honouring - and I'm happy indeed that it has been recognised. Now, where did I put that DVD?
