This involved many things, and a real feeling of accomplishment for a Saturday, for once. Maybe all this activity was in response to yesterday's annoyances (though getting dinner at TGI's was the main reaction, I guess).
So after getting up at 9am (not bad for a Saturday), lounging round for a bit, then shaving, having a shower, and unpacking a couple of boxes (my whisky collection is now shelved rather than boxed - yay), I headed out at about a quarter past ten to get a haircut. I walked the length and breadth of Ballards Lane looking for a barber's (I found plenty of hairdressers), with the only success being a shop that proclaimed to be a barber's, but in which I was told to come back later - despite there being two men in there doing nothing, and a guy sat in the chair. I was about to give up, but I'd earlier spotted a pet shop, and went in and bought a plastic mat to put Zoe's food and water on. Coming out, I saw what seemed to be a barber's (called "Barber Q"). Literally a one man shop (only one chair), with one guy getting his hair cut, and two more waiting, but I decided that, well, this was it, so I'd just wait.
The barber and the guy getting his hair cut were having a conversation about poker, a game I'd like to get into but don't dare to for fear of getting addicted. There was a notice on the wall about a regular Friday £20 no-limit buy-in, so I figure they were talking about that. From the way they were going on, it sounds like there were quite a few oddball characters there. Mind you, I could do the same with the Young Chelsea Bridge Club.
The next guy in the chair was quiet, got his haircut, paid, and left.
The one ahead of me then gave the barber what I consider to be very bad advice. He advised the barber to "wait a month or so before buying a PC, because Windows Vista will be out by then". Except for games, I'd rarely buy the 1.0A release of any software - let alone an operating system, let alone Windoze! If/when I upgrade to Vista, I'll be waiting until at least SP1 is out, and that'd be my advice to anyone. XP will still be around, still be a choice, and in the early stages of Vista, XP will be a better option as it's bound to be much more stable.
My turn, no conversation (the poker guy and the PC "expert" were both clearly regulars, even friends of the barber). Decent enough haircut, only £7.50, so he has my business from now on.
The barber also played the George Bush "president of China" sketch, which, whilst it's a blatant ripoff of Abbott & Costello, is still very funny.
The long wait for the haircut meant not getting back home until about 12. A. was up, we lounged for a bit, then headed out to dump some rubbish, and shop for lunch, dinner, and other bits and pieces. Lunch was had, and most of the afternoon I played Oblivion and listened to the footy on the radio (Torquay lost 0-2 to Accrington Stanley, of all teams...).
After the footy, over to Ashbourne Court to pick up yet more bits and pieces - some kitchen stuff, the Dyson, the dustpan & brush, and my old TV stand that's currently being used as a printer stand.
The living room is now free of boxes! Huzzah!
