My new PC isn't going to start its build until the 16th (of August (in
the year 2006; it's not quite Wembley Stadium...))! Nooooo! At least I
appear to have a real human being dealing with my order, though. So far
customer-service-wise Scan seems to have been a good choice.
Crucially (and yeah, that's kind of a pun... read on...) I know what my
motherboard and RAM modules will be, which means I can work out the best
memory upgrades to get (I've ordered 1Gb with the build; I'll probably
get another 2Gb on top).

Other woes and quibbles today:
- Stupid bint on the 'phone who doesn't understand London telephone
numbers. The STD code for London is 020. It is not 0207, it is not
0208, it isn't even 0203 (boy is that going to confuse the funtwits).
IT. IS. 0-2-0.

- Inserting a hyperlink to a PowerPoint presentation into a Word
document. Despite Window's claims that all I have to do is change the
file associations, I still need a copy of PowerPoint, as opposed to
PowerPoint Viewer, to open the damned link. I suspect that this is
because the code buried deep in Word doesn't do a nice simple and clean
"start .ppt". It probably tries to make an OLE call to
PowerPoint. Which of course is hard-coded into Word, and totally ignores
the Windows file associations. Micro$oft, you are a bunch of funting
funtwits.
