First, I had to buy a camera for Dan at work... so we drove into Manhattan, to B&H Photo.  I tell you, you've never been in a shop until you've been there.  B&H Photo, aside from being perhaps the single biggest Shiny Things(tm) Store you'll ever find yourself in, is also the craziest.  It's staffed, and run, entirely by Hassidic Jews - which means it's not open on a range of bizarre dates across the calendar.  Thankfully Independence Day isn't one of them (it's just a regular Monday... though they're closed midweek towards the back end of the month for some festival or other, ask Alexis).  So you ask a guy about the camera you want, and he directs you to a counter.  At the counter, you place your order, you get given a ticket, and you go to the checkout.  You hand over your ticket, pay, and get given another ticket.  Finally you take that ticket to the collection point and pick up your item.

The best way I could describe it is Kosher Argos.

After a light(?!) bite at TGI's, we schlepped across to the Bronx to take in a Yankees game.  We were an hour and a half early, so the place was already rammed (attendance was something like 15,000 off maximum - hey, it was only Detroit).  Parked up, confused the Will Call guy with two different credit cards and a UK driving licence for ID, got our seats, and watched the game.  In the end, it was 10-3 to the Yankees, though they were 7-0 up after two innings.  Four homers (A-Rod*, Sheffield, Bernie Williams and some other guy), with A-Rod's being a triple.  Detroit pulled their starting pitcher halfway through the second inning (he'd given away 6 runs by that point), only for the relief to get ejected for deliberately pitching at A-Rod's head.  In all, they got through five pitchers.

Then I drove home, and minor toll queue incidents on the Triboro Bridge aside, it was all very uneventful (if a little clogged getting from Yankee Stadium to the Major Deegan).

Home tomorrow (well, technically today), bringing Alexis with me.

* A-Rod being Alex Rodriguez, not Andy Roddick.
