Walking down into Old Street station this evening, I came across two sets of posters. One, displayed by a bunch of self-proclaimed socialists, announced that President Bush is the world's #1 terrorist. They were gathering signatures, for what I didn't stop to check. The second set of posters were the usual Evening Standard headline ones, telling us how a number of British nationals had been murdered by the suicide bomb attacks in Istanbul yesterday.
I did point out to the young lady at the socialist's stall who the real terrorists were before departing just as quickly as I'd walked up to her. I really couldn't be bothered with an argument, besides, I doubt she or any of the other hangers-on would have been able to come up with a valid point.
I would however like to state that the nature of their protest, in light of recent events, disgusted me, and is yet another reason why I steadfastly refuse to join in with any kind of anti-war demonstrations.
Try asking the people of Istanbul who the world's number one terrorist is. Or the residents of New York. Or Nairobi. Or Tel Aviv. Or Bali. I doubt the answer you'll get back is George W Bush, and I really hope that it won't take an atrocity the likes of which we've seen around the world in recent years to finally come to London, or Birmingham, or Manchester, or Liverpool, or Leeds, or Sheffield, or Glasgow, or Newcastle, to finally wake people up to who the real enemy is here.
