Quiet and boring as most Sundays tend to be around here. I went to see Superman Returns this evening, though, and found it a little long in the tooth, too much Lois, not enough Clark, and Brandon Routh is a little young, isn't he? Okay, so Supes doesn't age, but I didn't think he'd actually get younger... but maybe it's all that travelling at near light-speed that did it? Mind you, I always thought that Christopher Reeve was a little too old, and Dean Cain too good-looking (even with the specs on) and anyone else... well I've not seen any of the others, so I can't comment. Maybe in a couple of sequels' time, Routh will be the right age. Kate Bosworth, as has been mentioned elsewhere, ain't Margot Kidder, and really doensn't do much, except look confused all of the time. Her on-screen better half, though, is a far more convincing character. What they got right... well, using the John Williams music, and making this a sequel to Superman IV, well, that was right. Routh, other than the age thing, did great as the Man of Steel, and I guess okay as Clark Kent, but as we didn't really get that much of the mild-mannered reporter, time will have to tell on that one. Kevin Spacey was so hammy as Lex Luthor, I was dreaming of bacon sandwiches. And of course, it all looked utterly spectacularly fantastic... but let's face it, most big-budget films these days do. I enjoyed it, for the most part, though I'm not sure my bladder was thanking me towards the end.
