Ironmonger Row swimming pool is still closed, as its refurbishment has run over time. Better be worth it.
So I've been (attempting) to go to the best alternate: Archway. I've only actually made it there once, last week, and it's a nice pool, but it's a fun pool which has a couple of lanes roped of for a few hours. Nowhere near as good as Ironmonger Row in that way. The changing rooms are nice, except that the showers don't work very well. The lockers are much better, but then, I'm guessing (hoping) that new lockers are a priority for Ironmonger Row.
I was going to go yesterday - except Archway station was closed due to defective escalators, and the train didn't stop. Damned if I was going to get off at Highgate and bus it down the hill, when I was running late already!
Still, there was always today.
About 10am, Alexis turns up at my office... she's had a bit of a slip, twisted her ankle, and, oh, forgot her keys. So I give her mine; no problem, she'd be back before me anyway.
Ten minutes before leaving work... she emails to say her ankle is badly swollen and she needs to go to hospital. No swimming again, wife taken to Finchley Memorial Hospital's walk-in centre (a little known back-of-beyond gem of a hospital, where you get seen almost immediately!), and back home again with her ankle bandaged up and instructions to take plenty of painkillers, and to go back in the morning if it wasn't any better for a precautionary x-ray.
I then washed up, made the mashed potatoes for dinner, Alexis hobbled into the kitchen to put the pie together, and a very nice dinner was had.
I'll try swimming again tomorrow. Wonder what the problem will be this time?
