True - but I was assuming that the question implied the legal age for the buying and consumption (when not accompanying a meal) of alcohol.

Ah. I didn't think that was clear, and it's been my experience that that isn't something which is clear to a lot of USians. So, I figured it wouldn't hurt to mention.
