Purple Electric Violins

More specifically, purple electric violins with 5 (yes, 5) strings, and a full suite of sustain, effects, and recording pedals. Basically, the way it works, is the guy has a custom-built violin, and set of kit. He plays a bit of the track, which gets recorded, and played back in a loop as backing. Then he layers more tracks on top of it. The overall effect is quite stunning.

Already being rather fond of Ed Alleyne Johhnson, though i haven't been exposed to much of his stuff.
